PHYSICAL Arianna is a 5’11”, 130 lb Elven female with hazel eyes that grow darker or lighter depending on her mood. Arianna’s hair is midnight black with silver streaks worn to her shoulder. Her traveling outfit is a dark-gray shirt under darkened hide armor and dark pants. This outfit is complemented with a dark green coat over the armor and dark books. This outfit serves as camouflage in the woods and serves as a functional camouflage in the shadows. Arianna’s swords are situated for easy access – one on her left hip with the other slung over her right shoulder. Each hilt is darkened to prevent reflected light. The only jewelery that Ari wears is a medallion in the shape of a wolf worn under her armor to prevent reflected light.
PERSONALITY As a result of her upbringing, Arianna is particularly detail-oriented. Ari learned from an early age that missing a crucial detail could mean the difference between life and death. Arianna also learned significant patience, living her life by her father’s axiom that a “perfect blade is never wrought in haste”. This upbringing has led Arianna to be open to different points of view and opinions. This means Arianna is fairly easy going, only getting upset about specific things. Ari is particularly vehement about crimes against the greater good. When aware of someone benefiting at the expense of others, Arianna becomes fixated until justice prevails. She also becomes quick to anger about actions that remind her of her past. As a result of these beliefs, Ari may ignore specific laws if she deems them contrary to the common good.
BACKSTORY Arianna was born in the (relatively) peaceful village of Branchhaven, established in the northeast forest of Cormyr near the fortress city of Arabel. Branchhaven serves as another outpost to help protect Cormyr from invasion from the northeast. Arianna’s parents were typical for the village, her mother is a hunter while her father a blacksmith. As a child, Ari had many friends and could often be found practicing her tracking abilities with games like “Find the Seeker”
Branchhaven provides education to all citizens until the age of 18. These classes start teaching the arts (reading, writing, arithmetic) and include military training as the students get older. At age 10, the students are trained with live weapons. This training emphasizes movement over taking damage and wise target selection over dealing massive damage with the theory that this type of training will help keep citizens alive. Upon graduation, the students have the option of joining the civilian population (with the understanding they may be called up for duty) or be apprenticed to any number of adventuring groups based in Branchhaven.
Ari was an average student in school, excelling only in math, military strategy and tracking. Arianna’s education took a turn for the bizarre during her first weapons training session. Led out to the practice fields, Arianna felt a connection the moment she lifted the longsword. Exalting in her ease of use of the length of steel, Ari quickly disarmed her instructor. Unfortunately, this proficiency did not extend to archery. Aiming at a target 50 feet away, Ari shot and seriously injured an animal companion 125 feet behind the target. Subsequent lessons yielded no better results and Ari was trained more rigorously with the Longsword. This training continued an ardorous eight years until Ari was able to fight equally well with both hands.
On Ari’s graduation day, one of Branchhaven’s most successful adventuring groups – Kavan’s Wolves – returned home. Introduced to Arianna by the academy instructors, Kavan immediately saw her potential and apprenticed Ari. It was from Kavan, as well as a two-handed Dwarven Tempest fighter named Throgden, that Ari learned to emphasize damage to the exclusion of all else. From Throgden, Ari also learned the art of dual-wielding, adapting this technique to her preferred longsword. From this training, Ari earned the name Arianna Twinblade.
One day while making a supply run to a town named Creekton, the Wolves entered to find the village burning with numerous atrocities in plain sight. The Wolves resolved to track the bandits responsible, promising justice to the villagers and offering comfort and providing mercy as needed. This single event shattered Ari’s world-view (Arianna’s world was a little sheltered due to upbringing in Branchhaven) and inspired her to pledge to prevent these atrocities from ever happening again. At her urging, the Wolves tracked the bandits down to their camp and decimated their ranks. In the confusion, the leader of the bandits was able to escape retribution.
After the battle, Arianna was called to a meeting with the leaders of the Wolves. During this meeting, Kavan and Throdgen praised her for her courage and awarded Ari full membership as a Wolf (marked by the medallion she now wears). During this meeting, Kavan recommended that Ari form her own adventuring party. This, Kavan argued, will allow her to continue to hone her sword skills. Doubtful of her ability to successfully create a party, Ari took Kavan’s letter of recommendation to the king of Cormyr and was quickly accepted into Ad Hocbq).
During her time with Ad Hoc, Arianna has had to create a hybrid fighting style from her disparate training. Due to her role in Ad Hoc, Arianna is unable to move much and instead finds herself defending a small area and unable to capitalize on her Branchhaven training. Ari’s near-death experience in the Keep has forced her to abandon Throgden’s fighting style as well. Arianna’s hybrid style focuses on dodging attacks aimed at her while inflicting maximum damage to a single enemy.
